Prince Harry the New King of Late Night Chat
Harry chats about life in America and why a good waffle maker is the perfect gift for every foodie no matter how old they are.

An Afternoon Carpool with Prince Harry and James Corden was everything we didn’t know we needed. Not quite a Carpool Karaoke, falling just a little shy on the karaoke part. Harry might have rapped sixteen bars but not much more. Still, it was equal parts revealing interview, slapstick buddy comedy, and American Ninja Warrior thanks to the Spartan obstacle course.
We got nicknames (Hi Haz and Meg!), endearments (my love), and a look into Harry and Meghan’s family routine since moving to Montecito. The couple who started their relationship with quiet dinners and “cozy nights in” reminded us that they are still the international ambassadors for ‘Netflix and chill.’ Harry and Meghan come off just as they are — relaxed, casual, and down-to-earth. And maybe most importantly funny, we’ve missed the humor that fans of both had come to know and love. Harry was equally able to take and make a joke. Can you imagine what the NBC Saturday Night Live writers could do with someone with Harry’s comedic timing?
Initially intrigued by the paparazzi shots of James and Harry, there was some skepticism about how they would make this work. But, they pulled it off spectacularly well. Even the Brits who don’t care for Corden’s usual shtick, can’t deny that the friendship and ease between him and Harry was part of what made this a winning combination. Harry was able to talk openly and honestly with his friend about his decision to step back as a senior working royal and remove his family from what had become a “toxic” environment. Perhaps a preview of the type of candor we’ll see in the upcoming Oprah special. (Well played CBS.) Harry and Meghan can talk candidly about sensitive topics, even third-rail issues like The Crown, without throwing the Royal Family under the bus just as cousins Mike and Zara Tindall have done in interviews for years. Everyone but the U.K. media and the institution should feel safe. Those two, they are going to…
